Why YouTube is Awesome

YouTube is a phenomenon! The video sharing website was created in 2005. It lets users upload, view and share videos. People can film their own videos, watch music videos, comedy sketches, movie trailers, let’s plays, vlogs and original ideas.
Previously it was hard to show others your videos. You could try emailing it but the file was always too big. Now it’s easy. YouTube gets 4 billion video views every day, 48 hours of video every minute uploaded and in every hour 120 days of recording is being put on the website. So one year’s worth of footage is uploaded every 3 hours. It would take 8 years to watch 1 days’ worth of videos uploaded to YouTube and these numbers are growing.

One of the best things about YouTube and why it’s so important is people can view and share experiences together while watching videos. It is the third most visited website in the world and is a new accessible way of entertainment. Every day people can make videos and reach larger audiences than they could have ever reached.

YouTube was awarded the 2008 Peabody Award which is an accomplishment in electronic media and was quoted for being “a Speakers Corner” that both embodies and promotes democracy. It is even banned in some countries because their government is afraid of what their civilians will see. Such as protests, demonstrations and examples of freedom as has occurred in China, Morocco, Iran, Pakistan, Libya and Japan most recently.

There are some bad things on YouTube as well such as some of the comments and videos might be taken the wrong way or simply not good but other than that it is good.

Fresh new video series can be made that would never have aired on TV. By searching YouTube you can find amazing channels and people with similar interests to yours.  For example ‘The Phillip Defranco Show’ for news, ‘Freddiew’ for action and’ Blake Grigsby’ for comedy. The viewer’s become a Community built around the channel that brings a nice feeling such as ‘The Nation’, ‘Yognaught’s and Nerdfighter’s are some examples to name a few.
YouTube gives free content that interests you and is a cheap way for a quality past-time without spending lots of money. It can also be a very good learning tool because you can watch important events from the past and videos on anything you’re studying. Some really good education channels are Numberphile and Vsauce.
YouTuber’s can make their videos on whatever they want and whenever they like so there is always new videos uploaded every often and they can get feedback from their viewers super easy to make what they do even better.
YouTube has more video footage than all television networks put together. Video is the wave of the present. We are now a video consuming and producing society. YouTube is the go to place for video viewing and sharing in our world. People can express themselves, be creative and even showcase their talents around the world.

I'm giving it a 9.4/10
